Generally, sand particles, which are used in Distinct Element Method, are modeled using spheres or circle elements in a movable bed simulation. However, because actual beds are composed of many shapes of sand particles, it is important to investigate the influence of sand shape on characteristics of sediment transport. In this study, numerical simulation was performed for the sorting process under sheetflow conditions using a vertical two-dimensional granular material model based on the Distinct Element Method. Thereby, we investigated the influence of sand shape on the sorting process.
