EDEM Customer VR Steel Wins Prize for Tipper Design

VR Steel (Van Reenen Steel Ltd.) Announced Overall Winner of the Prestigious International Swedish Steel Prize

VR Steel is well known for their Innovative high-performance mining truck bodies, which are in high demand at mines around the world. The huge off-highway dump truck bodies are fabricated in their Alberton, South Africa workshop, where pieces are shaped from different plate thicknesses and steel grades in a 1250 ton press and welded together to form lightweight curved-bowl tippers with improved loading and emptying efficiency and an extended in-service life.

VR Steel routinely deploys a suite of CAE tools in the development of their highly optimized mining attachments. According to Bertus Haasbroek, Technical Manager, each VR Steel product is specifically engineered to improve and increase efficiency in mining productivity. EDEM® simulation technology played a big role in the design of their prize-winning tipper.
