Advances and technologies in Process Analytical Technology (PAT) were the main focus of the European Science Conference on Process Analytical Technology (EuPAT4) held in May in Kuopio, Finland. Opening remarks were delivered by Prof Fernando J. Muzzio of Rutgers University, and Director of the Engineering Research Center for Structured Organic Particulate Systems (ERC-SOPS) , which uses EDEM extensively in its research program.
A paper, which included output from research using EDEM, was presented in the technical session for Solid Dosage Processing, Modeling and Simulation in PAT:
“Numerical Simulation of Pharmaceutical Production Processes: towards Model Predictive Control (MPC) and QbD-based Simulation Design Space” by J.G. Khinast and S. Radl, of the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering (RCPE) and the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria; and D. Suzzi, G. Toschkoff, S. Adam, and C. Radeke of the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering (RCPE), Graz, Austria
The European Science Conference on Process Analytical Technology (EuPAT) Series of Conferences is a unique forum for scientists and engineers, encouraging and promoting progress in the science behind PAT and strengthening interdisciplinary scientific discussion. Topics will include: PAT in solid dosage form processing; novel measurement technologies; PAT in bioactive production and downstream processing; and modelling and simulation.
