EDEM 2017.2 brings speed to coupled simulations

The latest version of EDEM software is now available. Following very positive feedback from customers regarding EDEM 2017 this release focuses on further enhancing performance and productivity.

On the performance side, users who run EDEM together with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or Multibody Dynamics (MBD) software in a co-simulation environment will benefit from an increase in speed as this release introduces the compatibility of the EDEM GPU solver with the EDEM coupling interface. The EDEM GPU solver, which was introduced in EDEM 2017, can bring a great performance boost with simulation results up to 10 times faster. More information about the EDEM GPU can be found in this post.

On the productivity side, setting up equipment movement in the EDEM Creator environment is now easier and quicker with the introduction of new kinematics and geometries functionality. This particularly benefits users designing equipment such as chain elevators, bucket conveyors, swinging conveyors or luffing stackers which are made of multiple moving parts. New functions include the possibility to select multiple kinematics at once to edit them or copy them across other parts, with the option to loop a motion and add a time delay. This removes the need for users to go through repetitive and time consuming tasks when setting up complex geometry movements.

A full list of enhancements and fixes can be found in the EDEM 2017.2 Release notes available to customers.
